Biography of Milton M. Hejkal

Ennis, Texas

Milton Hejkal was a private in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He joined the Air Corps in February of 1941. He served with the 803rd Engineering Battalion in the Philippines. He was captured by the Japanese.  On October 10, 1944 he was one of 1,800 POW's herded aboard the Arisan Maru in Manila to be transported to Japan. The ship was torpedoed on October 24, 1944. All but 8 or 9 of the POWs lost their lives. Hejkal died on October 24. 

Milton was the son of Mr. Charlie Hejkal, and reared by his grandmother, Mrs. L. Koutilek. He attended Ennis schools. 

Milton is listed on the Memorial Monument to Ennis War Dead and the Ellis County Veterans Memorial.
