Biography of Sylvan M. Hammond

Waxahachie, Texas

Sergeant, United States Army; Entered the Army in October of 1942, and trained in California, and served in Australia, New Guinea, and on Morotai Island; Died on October 24, 1944 as a result of a Japanese air attack on Morotai Island, Northern New Guinea; Son of Mrs. W. W. Hammond of Albertsville, Alabama; Husband of Dorothy Lyon Hammond; Listed on Waxahachie Daily Light Honor Roll; Listed on Waxahachie First Baptist Church Honor Roll; Buried in Alabama; Awarded the Red Arrow Division, five Battle Stars and the Purple Heart Medal.
